Settlement Home Charity Garage Sale

November 6th-8th, 2009
The Settlement Home Charity Garage Sale is Friday, November 6th through Sunday, November 8th at the Palmer Events Center.  You'll find treasures, bargains and necessities at fabulously low prices in all twenty departments!

The sale benefits The Settlement Home, a licensed non-profit residential treatment center, therapeutic group home and foster family program for children.

Travis County and the City of Austin Veterans' Day Parade

November 11th, 2009


The annual Veterans' Day Parade honoring families of Veterans and active duty military will be held on November 11th, 2009 in downtown Austin, TX

The event kicks off at 9 AM from the Ann. W. Richards Congress Ave. Bridge and travels up to the State Capitol Building.  Viewing is available all along Congress Avenue and there will be a reviewing stand at the Steven F. Austin Hotel at Congress and 7th.  Stay for the 11 AM ceremony at the South Capitol steps.

Walking with Dinosaurs

Walking With Dinosaurs will take you back 65 million years for a theatrical experience of a lifetime! Experience the earthquakes, volcanoes and comets that impacted the earth, and watch dinosaurs at an enormous real life scale – the largest of which is 36 feet tall and 56 feet from nose to tail – as they roar and roam the arena. 

Children and adults are invited to join this spectacular event at Cedar Park Center in Cedar Park, Texas, November 18-22, 2009.

Be prepared this summer as you head out to the pool, river, lake or gather for family events. The American Red Cross of Central Texas offers first aid, care giving, water safety and instructor courses to keep you and your family trained and prepared to respond in any situation.

Babysitter Bootcamp is back! Three separate sessions will run throughout the summer. The program transforms young people 11-15 years old into the best babysitters in Central Texas. Not only does the class develop leadership and prompt decision-making skills, it also provides young people with CPR, First Aid and Water Safety Skills that can be applied to real life situations.

Red Cross Retreat to Grow Youth Leaders

Now more than ever, the Red Cross is looking to Central Texas youth to be the volunteers of tomorrow. Join a fun and engaging youth retreat July 25-26 at Texas Sate University – San Marcos. 

The Youth Leadership Development Retreat (LDR) welcomes motivated youth interested in becoming better leaders as well as anyone who wants to start a Red Cross Club at their school.Through group participation activities and hands-on learning, participants will learn more about the Red Cross plus build a number of other skills ideal for any leadership situation. 

The cost for the event is $40/person, and includes an overnight stay at the Texas State dormitories, all meals, instructional materials and LDR t-shirt.
