Chris Mosser! 8pm - 12 midnight Mon - Fri

I'm a native of Lubbock, Texas, but as non-Texans like to say, I got to Austin as quick as I could!  I'm now guiding you through the night from 8 to 12 midnight on KVET, and I keep busy with a variety of important tasks for the station and our parent company during the week as well.  I'm lucky to be with 98.1 KVET, the absolute coolest radio station in Texas, bar none!

I'm also proud to be the new host of the Sunday Night Texas Show, which was originated by my good friend Janice Williams last year.  It airs Sunday nights from 7 to 9, with two hours of great Texas country, ranging from the tried-and-true Willies and Waylons to the newest acts breaking around the state, plus full details on Texas music-oriented live shows happening all around Central Texas!  If you missed last Sunday's show, check it out now!  Click the "Podcasts" link above to listen to shows from our archive.  Also, with each week's podcast comes an opportunity to score free Texas Music CD's and DVD's from our grab bag!  The link you need to enter is HERE.

Besides my radio work, I'm busy raising two small Texans and a slightly nervous but smart and sweet blue heeler/border collie mix!  I'm thankful that my family and I live in Austin, the greatest city on the planet!  She's a blessing that none of us should ever take for granted.

I'm a huge movie fan, and try to hit the Alamo Drafthouse as much as I can.  No, they didn't pay me to say that.  Hard to believe it took someone until the 21st century to figure out that folks might like a beer and a burger with their movie.

I'm also a connoisseur of Texas Barbecue!  The following is my current top 5 favorite BBQ joints in the Austin area.  I encourage you to argue with me about it and suggest your favorite for me to try, though I've hit a good number of 'em.  Again, when I hit these places, I pay my own way.  This list changes all the time, but the top 5 as of June 18 2008 are:
1 - Mann's Smokehouse
2 - Opie's
3 - The Salt Lick (original location)
4 - Stubb's
5 - Artz Rib House

Thanks so much for visiting my page, and for listening to 98.1 KVET!  Drop me an e-mail anytime, I'd love to hear from you.

Chris

Best Gas Prices...Holiday Weekend Music Picks...and the Declaration of Independence!
Thursday 07-03-2008 9:36am CT
Starting with best petrol prices in the Capital City area as of this morning, from AustinGasPrices.com:

South Austin:  still the best price in the Austin area, $3.84, at the Genie Car Wash on South Lamar.
Georgetown:  $3.86 at the Texaco at Williams Drive and RM-2338, and also at the Wal-Mart on IH-35.
East Austin:  $3.89 at the Citgo location at 38 1/2 St. & Airport, and also at the Double-R store at MLK & Overhill (this location accepts CASH ONLY).
North Austin:  $3.89 at the Exxon at Research & Burnet, and at the Citgo at Anderson Mill & Pond Springs.

And your best bets for live music over the holiday weekend:

Thursday:  The Gourds and The Band of Heathens are doing a free show down in New Braunfels at the Whitewater Amphitheatre (New Braunfels is crawling with great music options this weekend).

Friday the 4th:  Still tickets available for the Willie Picnic...The Band of Heathens play free once again, early at Gruene Hall (1pm).  Jack Ingram and the Gougers at Gruene Hall is sold out...the South Austin Jug Band are at Threadgill's...the Cornell Hurd Band are at the Broken Spoke...Jeremy Steding and Clay McClinton are at Poodie's.

Saturday:  Kevin Fowler is at the River Road Icehouse in New Braunfels...Bruce Robison is at the Broken Spoke...Dale Watson and Robyn Ludwick are at the Continental Club...Jeremy Steding is at Hill's Cafe, starting at 7.

Sunday...Paula Nelson plays early at the Iguana Grill (6:30) and Heybale! are at the Continental at 11.

And finally...as we head into the Fourth of July, it's a good time to brush up on exactly what we're celebrating, and that is the Declaration of Independence.  For example:  did you know that only two people - John Hancock and the much-lesser-known Charles Thomson - actually signed the Declaration on July 4, 1776?  Fascinating, I know.  Lots more info on it HERE.  Have a great weekend, use that sunscreen, watch your intake, and have an extra burger for me.

Interesting article on the Beijing Olympics
Wednesday 06-18-2008 11:33am CT
More accurately, an interesting article addressing the way that many of us in America and the West feel about the Olympics being in China.  It's my belief that, rather than using the occasion as an excuse to rail against the Chinese government, the better option in the long haul is for us to take an opportunity to embrace the Chinese people and bring them closer into the global fold.  The more they see freedom, the more they will want it.  Check out the article HERE.

The podcast of last Sunday's show is up...sorry so late on this!  My excuse is that summertime has our schedule with the kids in a tizzy, and I may have dropped a ball or two.  Closer to the truth, it's so damn hot I'm having trouble doing much but stare at the wall.  Enjoy the podcast at the link to the left.
